Langsdale honors anniversary of 1963 March on Washington

Langsdale's Special Collections department has been very busy with efforts to honor the 50th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his I Have a Dream speech. Digital Archivist Aiden Faust worked with Mary Rose Madden and Jamyla Kay of WPYR, Baltimore's local National Public Radio station, to provide oral histories from Baltimore participants in the March from our collection of the Barclay School Civil Rights project.

Head of Special Collections Benjamin Blake attended the recent celebration in DC and has created a display commemorating the anniversary event.  We hope you'll stop by and take a look at it.

Throughout the next year, as we approach the anniversaries of key civil rights legislation and events, Langsdale will be digitizing and making available oral histories, news footage and archival materials related to the civil rights movement here in Baltimore. We look forward to playing a role in documenting the city's journey through this critical era in our nation's history.
